This assumes Pancake Rocks only – an extra mile and a half would be added to take in a side trip to see Horsethief Falls, which is a little over ½ mile from the fork where the trail splits, one way to Pancake Rocks, the other to Horsethief Falls. #2 Palmer Trail
Going straight east you will see a sign pointing to the Pancake Rocks or The Falls. The Pancake Rocks trail (#704a) is about 2.2 miles long. Although the parking lot can fill up on the weekends during the summer, I've never encountered large groups on the trail. This could be because the trailhead also connects with the Ring the Peak trail system. Horsethief Falls and Pancake Rocks can be found on the west side of Pikes Peak, so if you want to get away from the crowds and the city, put this trail on your to do list. see post and Horsethief Falls Trail is a 6.7 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located near Midland, Colorado that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. I’m glad I was alone on the trail…now nobody can contradict my story. I think this is a popular camping spot. I had muscle failure in my legs and my back was hurting from walking up hill so long. The trail is shaded and you get good views if you stop to look around through the trees. The trail wasn't for me, but it was a great trail. My husband and I got there at 645 am and was done around 11.
